based upon a simple delta blues riff that's embellished by all kinds of tonalities, a song of love's magic
the main riff was something bouncing around in my head for a very long time - it kind of reminded me of mississippi delta blues - so from there I envisioned lyrics that embraced the mysticism of island voodoo. From there I decided that an intro was necessary (as well as a refrain coda) so the toms came in handy along with wind chimes to give it an otherworldly effect. Fooling around with stomp boxes I came upon the cool combination that gives the guitar the song's finishing touch.... oh, and the screeching, synth sound at the end is actually a sax being played through yet another guitar stomp box (just in case you were wondering).
down by the border I met a gypsy queen
she took me by the hand, showed me things I'd never seen
the power of love
she said her name was Brigitte, she had a rooster feathered black
she stole my heart with a simple spell, and she ain't going to give it back
power of love
power of love was in her soul
she keeps calling me her Salmedi, said it was to be my fate
I hear the chants, see mystic realms, it's too much to contemplate
power of love
burning with fever, consumed with fire
to die in her arms is my one desire
she made me love her, I had no chance
I'm an unwilling partner in her voodoo dance
power of love - endless possibility
power of love - endless temptation
power of love was in her soul
